Festival trends and technology

We got into the nitty gritty details about the trends and technology we’re seeing more at festivals!

Nick Dodds, managing director for Festivals and Events International (FEI), discussed some of the major trends we’re beginning to see in this vertical and what to expect moving forward.

Niche festivals will begin to take off even more, especially in areas such as science, music, gaming, boutique, luxury and age-specific.

Dodds also went into detail about festivals becoming tourist destinations, marking sporting and national moments and competitive festivals and regeneration.

We also got some great insight into Sziget, the major week-long festival in Budapest that has expanded every year and welcomed 565,000 visitors in 2018.

Áron Farkas, the sales co-ordinator of Sziget Cultural Management, explained why the event decided to ‘go it alone’ in terms of its ticketing.

Festival promoters continue to evolve their expectations of the ticketing solutions they employ. These days almost all promoters are asking their ticketing platforms to also double (in part at least) as their marketing platforms.
